With the launch of our #SummerThrowBackSnaps competition, it got the Square Snaps Team thinking about the best summers that we have had in the past, so we decided to put together a special little memory diary of our own, using our awesome snaps.

Even though we cannot enter the contest, we wanted to share with all of you our nostalgic summer memories!

British summer road trip printed onto our Original Snaps

What is your best last summer memory?

My best past summer memory has got the be the summer after my first year of uni!
I had been working a lot during first year, and had been Umpiring at Wimbledon at the beginning of summer which gave me enough money to go on a month long summer road trip along the south coast, though nearly all of it was spent in South West Cornwall. A big black 7 seater wagon, tent, surfboards & Kayaks on the roof, and enough room to pretty much all live in the car on the rainy days by the beach waiting for the swell which was all we needed.

Who were you with?

I went in convoy with a few of my friends from school, and met up with some friends from Uni for Boardmasters festival in the middle of the month, which I have been to for about 5 years in a row now since I was 17. I made some awesome memories and never had a dull day.

Why is that moment/summer special?

Waking up next to the sea with fresh non-London air everyday, having the freedom to do whatever we wanted to do each day and making the most of a Great British Summer.  Paddling out past the breakers and sitting on surfboards with friends watching a stunning sunset over the atlantic in 30 degree heat and strong red was a moment I will never forget, and have a picture of that day  (above centre ) just before we set out that reminds me of that moment every time I see it on my wall.

What is your best last summer memory?

Last year was a pretty awesome summer for me. I somehow planned and squeezed loads of trips into a very short space of time. From sunbathing in San Francisco during a unexpected heat wave to dancing on the beach in Tel Aviv. In fact the sun pretty much stalked me last year. It was the first summer I didn’t go to Glastonbury or Bestival and part of me missed that.

Who were you with?

My trip to San Fransisco was with my best friends. We were celebrating my oldest friends 40th birthday. Tel Aviv was with my other half and we hooked up with a number of friends who lived there.

Why is that moment/summer special?

For me it was special because of the people I was with. Both cities are very welcoming and it was pretty easy to make new friends. I do wish that I did loads more tourist things but there is something about feeling so comfortable in a city that you can just go with the flow. We did go for a hike and the size of the golden gate bridge is unbelievable! Tel Aviv isn’t the prettiest city but it’s a city ruled by the beach. So hands down it win major brownie points for that!

Amazing family trip printed onto Mini Snaps

What is your best last summer memory?

One of my favourite summers was a December that we spend on Australia. I was 11 years old and I promise you I remember it as it was yesterday. We went to meet my cousin Noah in Sydney and  also travelled to the great Coral Reef.

Who were you with?

I was with my family, the five of us. For me, it was the best family trip we ever had together.

Why is that moment/summer special?

Even though we had been on a lots of family trips when I was a kid, at that time we had already been to Paris, Italy, London, Argentina and Uruguay. Sydney was the most shocking city I ever been to. The colourful of the streets, the wild nature and the diversity of cultures that coexist in there amazed me.

After two weeks in the city, with tasteful beach BBQs, a few visits to the supermarket (yup, we use to love discovering and tasting all the exotic products that we have never seen before) a night on the theatre with the amazing play “les Miserables” and a day in my favourite place, the Sydney Zoo. We then went to the Day Dream Island, a family holiday resort where we all felt like we were living a movie. There was a bar in the swimming pool, literally inside the swimming pool!.

Those days we enjoyed ourselves with water sports, games and excursions. The best one though, was obviously the visit to the Great Coral Reef. Where we could snorkel with 1000s of fish, and enjoy that colourful under the sea flora coral. To finish that spectacular day, and as a surprise to all of us, my dad booked a helicopter ride to bring us back to the resort. So first ride on a helicopter… check!

In summary, at the age of 11 I did one of the best trips of my life, now that I have grown up  I really appreciate and admire that my parents did that trip with us. It was a family adventure that we all did together and it would always be on our best summer memories.

LIFE IS SHORT, LIVE IT. LOVE IS RARE, GRAB IT. ANGER IS BAD, DUMP IT. FEAR IS AWFUL, FACE IT.

MEMORIES ARE SWEET, CHERISH IT.
